Salmon River success

We took these kings  this past  sept/oct.  They weren't eating but we coaxed them into smacking some estaz eggs and ice spawn....

2013 Pa Buck, 4th day of the season.

It was 64 degree's and raining. I thought there would be minimal deer movement. Was I ever wrong. This buck just appeared from thin air about 3:30 pm. I blew a chance at a smaller buck on another property in the morning. I failed to sneak out on a point overlooking a brushy old field and glass it. Instead I lazily drove the quad around the corner  of the timber and off he went with his lady friend.He was nice but smaller that the one I was fortunate to take.

Here's  a 7.5# brown trout taken on one of our jan. trips for steel head. It seems as though the browns are increasing somewhat in the tribs......

December 2012 Steelhead

We took full advantage of prime conditions. Rain from yesterday increased the flow overnight and was good at dawn. Stained,but fishable. By late morning the opalescent green color predominated. The steel were actively feeding and we landed double digits.........

2012 DEER SEASON WV/PA

Warm was the word for the 2012 rifle deer season! The dry conditions demanded that we would hunt from stands for the most part. JJ started off the season with a nice 8 pt. in wv on day two. He used a .338 Win.Mag. w/ 200 grain accubonds. I still think he's under gunned. I took this 10 pt. in PA the 3rd day of the season. Although we did alot of glassing at the longer ranges, my shot came at under 100 yds. I did see alot of deer in both states. Second day of PA i was watching a winter wheat field with 11 baldies and two 6 points. My buck was taken with the Sako .300 WM launching 150 ballistic tips @ 3,200 FPS.This load shoots 1/2 M.O.A.

THE FLOW FROM THE TUG HILL PLATEAU MET THE FRACTURED BEDROCK OF THE RIVER AND THE KINGS CAME IN GREAT NUMBERS. LONG DRAG SCREAMING RUNS, MANY LOST FISH AND A FEW LANDED. THE LARGEST WENT 23+#...........

2011 Buck

This big dude was spotted by me on the last week of the season as i was glassing. I developed a plan of attack,based on the wind, for the following morning. the next day it all came together just after daylight. Took him at about 70 yds. at the edge of the woods in a brushy field. 19" spread w/ good mass. .270 Sako did the job once again.

Fall 2011 Steelhead Run is on........

Rain has fallen.The Lake Erie water temp. is dropping and the steel are invading the tribs.The murky skies have slowly yielded to sun and blue. Emerald waves churn onto the shore under a light north wind. After some earnest searching for fish on our first trip we found some. coaxing them to bite took some real effort.Rain gear shed, trip number two started off slow....then we hit the mother load! Fresh chrome in good numbers. Best of all,they were eager to eat,and feed them we did !!!!!!!

2011 SPRING STEELHEAD RUN

After a very cold and protracted winter the spring run has begun. Proving yet again that the calender period/angle of insidence of the sun is critical.

2010 Buck season

The weather went from 56 degrees to snow and wind. Like always, the deer moved in earnest!Two factors come into play. First, by oct. the deer have their winter coats. It' simply more comfortable to move about in cooler conditions. Secondly, and more importantly, the need to feed forces them to move about during daylight hours. The more protracted/colder/snowier the weather remains, the more the whitetails will be out during the day. Took this guy at dusk.

2010/2011 Steelhead Season

Rains in excess of 1" have jump started the season. Swollen creeks have provided a liquid highway for the steelhead to start moving upstream. This fish went 8#12oz.

Erie Smallmouth

We were back up to the eastern basin yet again. Best place to be this time of year.
The wind picked up from the WSW and so did the hard jerk bite. First we cruised the flats sight fishing.We looked for small boulders,rock rubble and any transitions/edges. The bass seemed to relate to those areas.It was very exciting to see some of them chase and them slam the lure. We then moved to deeper water. As the wind velocity increased boat control became critical. The reward was a bunch of nice aggressive bronzebacks on the deck. All were released of course, to grow bigger for another day on the big lake.......

End of the spring steehead run

What started out as a painfully slow season on the north shore ended in a bonanza! From late march on until about a week ago we were into the steel. We played the water conditions as best as we could. Watched those gauges carefully and made our move. As usual ,dropping levels and opalescent green flows were prime. As the levels dropped so did our tippet size. Egg patterns and emerald/emerald imitations did the trick. The water temps languished all winter long. then....pow! They rose rapidly with very few days with 40-42 degree water.While water temp. is certainly a factor,the spawn is also a photo-period driven event. quite evident this spring. We also learned that the salmoniods are shocked by the passing of a strong cold front in the spring more than we believed. But remember, light biters can still be enticed. Down size and switch often. Above all persistence has no equal. Keep fishing.............
